Qualtrics Surveys and Single Sign-On


General Information

The Qualtrics tool is available to the Yale community to support clinical and academic research. If you are conducting a survey that is targeting only an active Yale population, you may want to restrict access by requiring users to authenticate using Yale SSO.

In the YaleSurvey account, there is a sample survey called Yale SSO Sample Survey (Shibboleth) that you can view. It is located in the Library, “Yale Survey Samples” in the “Samples with Authentication” folder.

How to update Single Sign-On (SSO) for a Qualtrics survey

If SSO for your survey is not working and needs to be updated, below are the steps for the minimum configuration. For information on using a panel or capturing respondent identifying info, please see the Qualtrics help article SSO Authenticator. If you require additional information, please contact Qualtrics Support.

  1. Log in to your Qualtrics account.
  2. Locate and select the survey that uses SSO.
  3. Update the SSO configuration by:
    1. Selecting Survey Flow.
      1. We advise taking a screenshot of your current configuration in case you need to revert.
    2. Select SSO from the Authentication Type dropdown.
    3. Select Shibboleth from the SSO Type dropdown.
    4. Select yalesurvey from the Connection dropdown.
      1. If you already have yalesurvey selected, please select it again.
    5. Click Apply.
  4. Test your survey to confirm authentication is working.
