To improve productivity and innovation and reduce duplicative services, ITS is phasing out Box @ Yale as an available service offering on March 31, 2026. As part of the effort to eliminate the use of the service, new users to the University are no longer being provisioned with Box accounts automatically.
Microsoft OneDrive, Teams, and SharePoint are recommended as robust and efficient alternatives, offering superior collaboration features at no cost to you. If you require capacity or file sizes beyond what is supported in OneDrive or SharePoint, Dropbox may be a suitable option for a fee. Additional storage options are available in the recommendation overview.
Where possible, it is recommended that existing data that is being worked with in Box be migrated to one of the alternative storage solutions. Owners should review the data to determine what can be deleted and/or archived, and what needs to move to a new location using our Best Practices for Data Storage in Collaborative File Services for guidance. Data can be migrated from Box @ Yale to Microsoft (OneDrive, Teams or SharePoint) using the Globus tool. If you need more help, contact the ITS Help Desk.
If access to Box is absolutely required, you may submit the Box access request form to be provided access. Approximately an hour after submission of the form, you will be granted access. You will also be included in targeted communications to Box users to migrate data off of Box and stop the use of the service by March 31, 2026.
