All Yale NetIDs are subject to automatic deactivation once an individual no longer has an active affiliation with the university. The timeline of deactivation depends on the prior affiliation of the individual.
After a 45-day grace period, the NetID system will automatically disable NetIDs and email accounts for faculty, staff, and other academic affiliates in Workday.
Student NetID accounts will be locked 365 days following graduation. At this time, School of Management and Law graduates are excluded from this deactivation.
*The day after a student’s last class is when their Active Grace Period begins. Please refer to the Identity Lifecycle for more information.
NetIDs of Sponsored Identities, Academic Affiliates, Temporary Employees, Casual Employees, and Contingent Workers will be disabled on their expiry date.
Notifications will be sent to those affected at the following intervals before the NetID becomes disabled:
Note: This applies only to Faculty, Staff, and Students. For Sponsored Identities, notifications will be sent directly to the original sponsor department approvers.
If your NetID expires in error, please contact your department’s business office to request an update to your Workday record or to create a Sponsored Identity affiliation. The only way to enable a NetID or email account is to obtain an active affiliation with the University.
Please contact the ITS Help Desk or the Student Technology Collaborative for technical assistance. Additional student resources are available on the Graduating Students resources page.
