How to Set up a secure file transfer folder in OneDrive
OneDrive is used to transfer files temporarily to others internally and externally securely. Files are automatically deleted based on a date that you set. The first step in sharing confidential files is to set up a Secure File Transfer folder in OneDrive.
To create your Secure Files Transfer folder in OneDrive
- Log into OneDrive with your Yale email address and password
- Select the New menu and choose the Folder option
- Name the folder Secure Files Transfer then select the Create button. The folder will appear in your list of folders in OneDrive
- Right-click the new Secure Files Transfer folder and select Details from the menu that appears to open the Details pane
- On the Details pane select the drop-down under Apply label and choose one of the Delete after x days labels based on your preference for how long to retain the files before deletion.
Note: You can set up multiple folders with different retention labels to make the files available longer. - Any files you place in this folder will now automatically be labeled and deleted on the date you’ve specified. Note: It can take up to 7 days from when the retention period has passed for the files to disappear from the folder.
