Windows SecureW2 is a network security tool that installs the required authentication information and certificates for Yale's Next Generation Network (NGN). When you launch SecureW2, the system prompts you to enter your NetID and password.
How To Install
- Navigate to the Yale Software Library to download the tool
- Select Add to Cart, then select View Full Cart
- Select Check Out, Continue at the bottom, and Download on the next screen.
- Select the first option for Windows to download the Yale_SecureW2_Windows.exe file.
- Double-click to run the file once it's downloaded
- When prompted, enter your NetID and password
- Select Next
- If you get a message about the Configured network is not in range, click the Continue button
- A dialog will pop up indicating a successful and secure connection
macOS (Yale managed only)
macOS (Non-Yale managed)
- Navigate to the Yale Software Library to download the tool
- Select Add to Cart, then select View Full Cart
- Select Check Out, Continue at the bottom, and Download on the next screen.
- Select the second option for macOS to download the Yale_SecureW2_MacOS.dmg file.
- Double-click to run the file once it's downloaded
- When prompted, enter your NetID and password
- Select Next
- If you get a message that the Configured network is not in range, click the Continue button.
- A dialog will pop up indicating a successful and secure connection
Linux workstations
- Navigate to the Yale Software Library to download the tool
- Select Add to Cart, then select View Full Cart
- Select Check Out, Continue at the bottom, and Download on the next screen.
- Select the third option for Linux to download the SecureW2_JoinNow.zip file.
- Extract the files and run SecureW2_JoinNow. Run
- When prompted, enter your NetID and password
- Select Next
- If you get a message that the Configured network is not in range, click the Continue button.
- A dialog will pop up indicating a successful and secure connection
Common Questions & Issues
- Your computer needs to be in the range of the YaleSecure WiFi network or connected to the Yale wired (ethernet) network
- If your password is not accepted, you can verify your password by visiting the Yale Directory and selecting Log In in the top right corner.
- If you have forgotten your NetID password, you can reset it with our Forgot Your Password page.
- ITS-managed computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system will receive SecureW2 automatically. Software Library installation is required for non-managed Windows machines, all macOS computers, and Linux computers
- Linux - Fedora 37:
- The installation may fail due to a change in Python 3.11, this is being investigated
