Installing applications with Software Center or Company Portal

About SCCM

Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) platform includes app-store-like functionality, allowing users to self-install certain applications, even if the users don't have administrative rights on their computers. If you are uncertain if your computer has SCCM, reference: Determining if Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) is installed on your computer.

Instructions for Software Center (Windows) and Company Portal (Mac)

Windows

  1. Select the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of your desktop.
  2. Type Software Center, then select the Software Center application from the list.
  3. Select Applications from the left side of the navigation pane.  For Windows upgrades, select Operating Systems. You will see an interface like the one below.
    • This image depicts the Software Center application page. This page shows software avaialble to you through the Software Center. It shows software you have installed and that is available to install.
    • All available applications will be listed in the main part of the window.
  4. To install an application or operating system upgrade, select it, then click Install. If a particular application was already installed via the Software Center, you will instead have the option to uninstall the application. Operating System patches can not be uninstalled through this process.

MacOS

  1. Open the Company Portal application.
  2. Select "Sign in."
  3. Select the "Apps" button at the top of the navigation pane.
  4. Select the "All Apps" button on the top left side of the navigation pane.
    • You will see an interface like the one below.
    • This image depicts the Company Portal application page. This page shows software avaialble to you through the Company Portal. It shows software you have installed and that is available to install.
  5. The Company Portal window will list the applications that are available for your computer.  Some of the applications will have important information in their "Show details" section.  Please review the application details before installing.
  6. To install an application, select the desired application, then select the "Install" button under its name. If a particular application was already installed using the Company Portal application, there will instead be a "Re-install" button.
