Q. Am I eligible for an upgrade?
A. You are eligible for an upgrade if your device has been under contract for 2 years. You will need to email the cellular team at telecom@yale.edu and provide your Carrier/Cell number, and they will confirm your eligibility.
Q. Is my device equipped with International service?
A. All Yale devices are equipped with the International Day Pass (AT&T) and Custom Travel Pass (Verizon). The International Travel Pass is a 5GB plan with text, data, and calling for $10 per day ($2 per day for Canada/Mexico). Please keep in mind if you go over the 5GB in a 24-hour period, your data will be throttled back to a slower speed of 0.5GB. The Travel Pass is not intended to stream video, audio (Zoom), or gaming as it will utilize the majority of your daily data allowance. Please contact telecom@yale.edu to confirm that the International Travel Pass has been added.
Q. Will my cellular device work in a remote location without WiFi?
A. No, please check prior to traveling if your location is equipped with WiFi. If not, make other arrangements to be near a WiFi location if you need service. You can also purchase a MiFi, which may help in some locations but not all.
Q. Can I take my phone and phone number with me if I leave the University?
A. Yes, you can take the phone number with you. A Service Now request (terminate service) must be submitted as a Corporate to Personal transfer. You will need to check with your business office regarding your department's policy on retaining a Yale-purchased cellular device.
Q. How can I check the Yale price of a cellular device?
A. Please contact telecom@yale.edu for the most up-to-date pricing. Please provide Carrier and Cell#.
Q. Can I purchase a discounted cellular device for personal use through the University?
A. No, unfortunately, you are not eligible for a discounted cellular device unless it is authorized by your department that they will cover the cost of the device and the monthly plan. As a Yale employee, you are eligible for a discount on your monthly cellular bill.
Q. We have a new person starting in our department, and we would like to assume financial responsibility for the cellular device. What do we need to do?
A. The end user will need to contact the carrier and let them know they would like to transfer their number to Yale University. There must be a zero balance on the user's cellular account, which includes hardware and the monthly charge. If that is not done, Yale University cannot accept financial responsibility.
Q. Is my device covered by insurance?
A. No, Yale University does not cover insurance for your device. If you want your device insured, you will need to contact Apple for Apple Care, and you are responsible for all charges.
Q. Can I activate my personal Apple iWatch on the Yale University Mobile Device account?
A. Yes, with your department’s approval. Cost is $10 per month, and you will be assigned a new phone number for your iWatch. You must have a cellular device on the Yale University account to add an iWatch.
