NetReg Device Registration

Provided by Yale ITS
Parent Service: Network Services

Yale requires that devices connecting to the University network (e.g., computers, mobile devices, game consoles, etc.) are registered to associate the device with a user.

If you sometimes connect using wireless, and at other times use an ethernet cord, you will need to register both the wired and wireless media access control (MAC) addresses for that device. Alternately, you may connect using the YaleSecure wireless network with no need to register.

Students need to register their devices annually. Faculty and staff usually only need to register their devices once.

To register your computer or device to access the Yale network through a wired device, or the Yale Wireless wifi network:

  1. Determine the hardware address for each connection on your computer or device (there is usually one for wireless, and a separate one for a wired connection).
  2. Plug your computer or internet device into an Ethernet jack (wired connection) or use a computer or device that already has access to the Yale network.
  3. Register your device
  4. Follow the instructions on screen. You will need to complete a separate registration for each of your network connections (e.g. wireless and wired/ethernet or for each of two wired/ethernet connections).
  5. Once the registration process is complete, it will take a few minutes before you are able to connect to the network.

Students need to register their devices annually. Faculty and staff usually only need to register their devices once. Once registered, you will need to connect using one of the methods you registered for that device - via either a wired ethernet cable to an active ethernet jack or via connection to Yale's wifi network while on-campus.
