Migrate to Amazon S3

Amazon S3 can store all kinds of data securely and is used mostly for big projects or websites. Spinup offers Amazon S3 in a standard tier or a Deep Archive tier.

If you are migrating from Box or Google Drive to Amazon S3, follow the instructions below.

  1. Create your S3 Bucket using Spinup.
  2. Submit a ticket to Cloud Services requesting a Globus Collection for your S3 Bucket.
  3. Use Globus to transfer data between services.

Migrate to Wasabi or Storage@Yale

Storage@Yale has many offerings available depending on your use case.

If you are migrating from Box or Google Drive to an offering from Storage@Yale (including Wasabi), follow the instructions below.

  1. Submit a ticket to Storage@Yale requesting the storage type.
  2. In your request, be sure to note that you will need a Globus Collection for your new storage.
  3. Use Globus to transfer data between services.

Creating an S3 Bucket in Spinup

1. Log into the Spinup web portal and create a space (or use an existing space).

2. Enter all the required fields to create a space.

3. From within the space, under the resources tab, choose create or click to get started!

4. Scroll to the Storage section and choose an S3 option. In this example, I'll create an S3 Deep Archive Bucket.

5. Name the bucket, then choose Create S3 Bucket (this will take a moment.)

6. Once created, choose Add New under the Users tab, then give the user a name, and ensure the user has the admin role, then choose Save.

7. With this new user created, you can now create an access key. Choose Create Key and be sure to note Access Key ID and Secret Access Key.

Using Globus to Migrate Data between Collections

1. Start by Logging into Globus using Yale University.

2. From the File Manager tab, select the Two Pane panel option.

3. With two panes available (in this example, let's assume the left is Source and the right is Destination), click the left panel Collection search field to search for a collection.

4. Search for the Collection you’d like to use as a source. (In this example, we will use Yale Google Drive). You can search the tag YaleU to find Yale’s collaboration storage offerings. Once you find it, click the name of the Collection.

5. You should now see the Collection in File Manager. To select the Destination collection, repeat the process for the right side Collection pane.

6. In this example, I’ve searched for my Spinup S3 Bucket and selected it.

7.  (In this example, a single folder called test-files is selected, but you may choose the individual folder(s), file(s), or even the entire Collection.

8. On the Destination pane, choose an existing folder, create a new folder, or transfer directly to the root of the Collection. You can also set transfer settings in the Transfer & Timer Options dropdown. When ready, press Start to start the transfer.

9. Once started, you can click View Details in the green pop-up to see the transfer status.
