Overview
YaleSecure is the recommended, encrypted wifi network. Members of the Covered Components must use the YaleSecure or Yale Wireless network connected to Yale VPN. For more information on available WiFi networks, please visit: About Wifi.
Note: The Information Technology Appropriate Use Policy applies to the use of the YaleSecure network.
When to Use
- You need a secure, encrypted wifi network while on the Yale campus.
- You are connecting a device (computer, phone, etc.) to the Yale network for the first time.
- You are unsure of what settings to select when connecting to YaleSecure on your mobile device.
How to Connect
- Navigate to the WiFi settings on your device.
- From the list of available networks, select "YaleSecure"
- You will be prompted to log in. Use your NetID and NetID password.
Android and Chromebook devices
These devices may require additional configuration steps below.
- After viewing the list of available wireless networks, select "YaleSecure"
- "YaleSecure" will prompt for a username & password
- Username: yale\NetID
- Password: Your NetID password
- If prompted about a certificate, accept the certificate and continue through the on-screen steps
- If prompted to select or input options, use the following settings:
- Wireless Security: "WPA & WPA2 Enterprise"
- Authentication: "Protected EAP (PEAP)"
- Anonymous identity: leave blank
- CA certificate: (None) or (Do Not Validate)
- PEAP version: "Automatic"
- Inner authentication (or Phase 2 Authentication): "MSCHAPv2"
- Username: Your NetID
- Domain: yale.edu or yale
- Password: Your NetID Password
Android and Linux devices (e.g.. Google Pixel phone)
- Username: NetID
- Domain: yale.edu or yale
- Password: Your NetID Password
- Certificate: Use system certificate, which may be the default that you cannot change.
After completing the above steps, and you click Connect, a notification: "No Certificate Authority certificate chosen" window may appear; you may select Ignore. The system should now indicate a connection to YaleSecure.
Note: Many Linux distributions require wpa_supplicant for secure wireless networking. This may require adding a custom entry for YaleSecure to the wpa_supplicant.conf file.
Common Issues
| Issue | Resolution |
| I am unable to connect with my NetID & NetID password. |
If you have verified that you are entering the correct NetID password:
- Go to the Network settings on your device.
- Forget "YaleSecure"
- If you are using a Mac, remove "YaleSecure" from your stored keychain.
- Reconnect to "YaleSecure"

| My non-Yale device is still unable to connect to YaleSecure |
Windows, macOS, and Linux Non-Managed Workstations may need to install the SecureW2 application from the Yale Software Library. Visit the Yale Software Library and install the SecureW2 supplicant. Once downloaded:
- Run SecureW2 from your device.
- Linux: Unzip the SecureW2_Linux_JoinNow.zip file and then run the SecureW2_Linux_JoinNow.run file
- When prompted, enter your NetID and NetID password.
- Select Next.
- A dialog will pop up indicating a successful and secure connection
