Connect to the YaleSecure Wireless Network


Overview

"YaleSecure" is the recommended encrypted WiFi network for individuals on the Yale campus. If you do not have an active Yale NetID, you can connect to the "YaleGuest" network. If you are from an educational institution that participates in EduRoam, you can connect to the EduRoam network. For more information on available WiFi networks please visit: About Wifi.

How to Connect

  1. Navigate to the WiFi settings on your device
  2. From the list of available networks, select "YaleSecure"
  3. You will be prompted to log in
    • Managed Workstations may automatically connect since you use your NetID to login to the computer
    • Non-Managed Workstations: Enter your NetID and NetID password

Trouble Connecting to YaleSecure

If you are unable to connect to YaleSecure with your NetID and NetID Password and have verified your NetID Password:

  1. Go to the Network settings on your device 
  2. Forget "YaleSecure" 
  3. If on a Mac, remove "YaleSecure" from your stored keychain
  4. Reconnect to "YaleSecure"
  5. Windows, macOS, and Linux Non-Managed Workstations may need to install the SecureW2 application from the Yale Software Library 
    1. Navigate to the Yale Software Library
    2. Select the version of SecureW2 that matches your device’s operating system
    3. Run SecureW2 from your local machine
    4. Linux: Unzip the SecureW2_Linux_JoinNow.zip file and then run the SecureW2_Linux_JoinNow.run file
    5. When prompted, enter your NetID and NetID password
    6. Select Next
    7. A dialog will pop up indicating a successful and secure connection

Android and Chromebook devices may need additional configuration

  1. After viewing the list of available wireless networks, select "YaleSecure"
  2. "YaleSecure" will prompt for a username & password
    • Username: yale\NetID 
    • Password: Your NetID password
  3. If prompted about a certificate, accept the certificate and continue through the on-screen steps
  4. If prompted to select or input options, use the following settings:
    • Wireless Security: "WPA & WPA2 Enterprise"
    • Authentication: "Protected EAP (PEAP)"
    • Anonymous identity: leave blank
    • CA certificate: (None) or (Do Not Validate)
    • PEAP version: "Automatic"
    • Inner authentication (or Phase 2 Authentication): "MSCHAPv2"
    • Username: Your NetID
    • Domain: yale.edu or yale
    • Password: Your NetID Password

Android and Linux devices (e.g.. Google Pixel phone)

  1. Username: NetID 
  2. Domain: yale.edu or yale
  3. Password: Your NetID Password
  4. Certificate: Use system certificate may be the default that you cannot change.
  5. After completing the above steps, when the client selects Connect, a notification: "No Certificate Authority certificate chosen" window appears - select ignore. The system should now indicate a connection to YaleSecure
  6. Note: Many Linux distributions require wpa_supplicant for secure wireless networking. This may require adding a custom entry for YaleSecure to the wpa_supplicant.conf file.
