Setting Up and Connecting to the Yale VPN on Android Devices


Overview

The Yale VPN (Virtual Private Network) enables individuals to access Yale resources from off-campus locations securely. 

VPN is not required for accessing services such as Zoom, Canvas, Workday, Office 365, EliApps, the Software Library, and others. 

When to Use

Configuring the Yale VPN on your Android Device

  1. Install Cisco Secure Client-AnyConnect from the Google Play Store.
  2. Launch the Secure Client app.
  3. Enable the app by selecting OK.
  4. Select Connections.
  5. Select Add New VPN Connection.
  6. Configure the settings:
    1. Description: Yale VPN
    2. Server Address: access.yale.edu
    3. In 'Advanced Preferences', confirm the Certificate field is set to Automatic
  7. Select Done.
  8. Cisco Secure Client is now configured on your device.
    1. Note: The first time you connect to Yale VPN, an additional SSL_VPN connection will automatically be added. Either connection can be used.

Steps to connect to Yale VPN

  1. Launch the Secure Client app
  2. Toggle the Secure Client VPN switch to ON
  3. Log in with your Email, NetID password, and your two-factor authentication method
    • Username: First.Last@yale.edu
      • If you do not have an email address, you can use NetID@yale.edu
    • Password: Yale NetID password
  4. Approve in DUO for 'push', answer the call, and press 1# for 'phone', or enter bypass code
    • Click "Other Options" to choose your authentication method
  5. Select Connect
  6. You will then be connected to the VPN
  7. Disconnect from VPN when it is no longer required by toggling the Secure Client VPN switch to OFF
