Install Student Print Queues and Papercut Client Software on a Mac

Students should use the instructions in KB0002017 to install both the BluePrint print queues and Papercut software. This is done by downloading the appropriate installer for their computer and running it. The instructions are repeated here for convenience.

 

Download and Install Papercut and Student BluePrint Queues:

  1. Go to https://ypps.yale.edu/studentprint.
  2. In the Quick Start box, expand the download section for your computer, Windows or Mac.
  3. Download the installer and run it by double-clicking it.
  4. When prompted, enter your yale\NetID and password and click Install.
  5. The student color and student black and white print queues will be installed along with the Papercut software required to print.

Manual Installation Instructions:

There are three steps to using BluePrint on a Mac:

  1. Setup the BluePrint_BW queue.
  2. Setup the BluePrint_Color queue.
  3. Install the PaperCut client.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Setup the Black and White BluePrint Queue:

  1. Click the Apple menu (top left) and select System Preferences.
  2. Select Printers and Scanners.
  3. *REMOVE ANY PRINT QUEUES USING SMB PROTOCOL*
  4. Click the + to add a new printer.
  5. Choose Advanced from the menu. If you do not see the Advanced option on the menu bar:

 

  1. Enter the following settings:

 

  1. Click Add.
  2. Check the Duplex Printing Unit box and click OK. This allows you to print double-sided pages.
  3. Now when you print, you should see the BluePrint_BW printer as an option. When you print, you will be asked to enter your NetID and password. When you enter your NetID, put yale\ in front of it. Use your NetID password to authenticate. If you check the Remember this password option, you will not have to re-enter your NetID/password every time you print.
  4. You will need the PaperCut client installed as well. Instructions are at the bottom of this article.

 

Setup the Color BluePrint Queue:

  1. Choose Advanced from the menu. If you do not see the Advanced option on the menu bar:
  1. Click the + to add a new printer.
  2. Select Printers and Scanners.
  3. Click the Apple menu (top left) and select System Preferences.
  4. Enter the following settings:
  1. Click Add.
  2. Check the Duplex Printing Unit box and click OK. This allows you to print double-sided pages.
  3. Now when you print, you should see the BluePrint_Color printer as an option. When you print, you will be asked to enter your NetID and password. When you enter your NetID, put yale\ in front of it. Use your NetID password to authenticate. If you check the Remember this password option, you will not have to re-enter your NetID/password every time you print.
  4. You will need the PaperCut client installed as well. Instructions are at the bottom of this article.

Install the PaperCut Client:

  1. Download the installer from http://ypps.yale.edu/blueprint/papercut/client-downloads. Use the PaperCut for Macs All Campus Locations link.
  2. Download the zip file to your desktop, and double-click to extract the contents.
  3. Double-click on the pkg file to run the installer.
  4. Enter your credentials as “Yale\netid”/password and check the box to “Remember my identity”.
  5. The Papercut Balance window should now appear.

 

The PaperCut client must be running when you print. You can set the client to run when you login to ensure that the client is always running:

  1. Go to Apple menu (top left) > System Preferences > Users & Groups.
  2. Click on the lock and enter your password if necessary.
  3. Highlight your user account in the left pane. Select Login Items and click on the + sign.
  4. Browse to your application folder and choose the PCClient application.

 

You should now see the PCClient application in your login items and it should run automatically when you log in to your computer.
